The labour market is facing an unprecedented war for talent. Sectors such as finance, IT and innovation are being hit by a growing demand for specialist skills. The necessary experts that used to be readily available in Luxembourg are now harder to attract.

In an interview with PaperJam, the reference medium for business in Luxembourg, ProUnity’s Frédérique Beumier explains that Luxembourg companies urgently need to rethink their recruitment strategies to include a greater role for external knowledge workers.

Luxembourg companies are finding it increasingly difficult to attract external talent. How do you explain this situation?

Frédérique Beumier: “The war for talent has intensified, especially in sectors such as finance, IT and projects requiring know-how about innovation. These talents are increasingly in demand from companies all over Europe, which offer them the competitive remuneration packages and flexibility that talents are looking for.”

“The appeal of the grand duchy now seems to be waning, partly because of its traditional working structure, which is struggling to adapt to the new expectations of professionals, particularly in terms of flexibility.”

“While many European countries have already integrated external talent management systems
such as VMS to optimise their use of contingent labour, Luxembourg is still in the adoption phase.”

What does a VMS do? Is it really the solution for the Luxembourg market?

“A VMS or Vendor Management System, is a Software As A Service tool that enables companies to plan, recruit, monitor and integrate external talent into their projects. It offers total cost transparency, ensures compliance with local legislation and optimizes the efficiency of HR processes.”

What role do procurement professionals play in this process?

“They are often responsible for acquiring and managing external talent. They have to negotiate contracts and ensure that costs are kept under control, but they also have to ensure that the talent is effectively integrated into existing teams. A VMS enables them to centralize and standardize these processes, which is crucial for optimum management of contingent staff.”

What advice would you give to managers of Luxembourg companies to help them catch up?

“They should consider integrating modern technological solutions like a VMS to not only manage external talent, but also attract it. This is the best way of filling vacancies more quickly, and recruiting the best talent wherever they are in Europe.”

So it’s no longer a question of recruiting, but of recruiting intelligently with the right tools…
